The role of the CFO has traditionally been a “head down, monitor the numbers” sort of role. I remember all too well in my early finance career being seen as a function that primarily existed to run reports and prepare PowerPoint presentations!

For anyone who doubts the impact that cloud-based services resource planning (SRP) products can have on a professional services organization, Jeanne Urich, managing director of Service Performance Insight Research, offered some compelling evidence during her talk earlier this month at NetSuite's SuiteWorld conference in San Jose, Calif.
In particular, Urich cited a top UK consulting firm that, thanks to running NetSuite SRP, was able to grow from 300 consultants to about 700 without adding a single employee to its 65-person operations team.
Getting such elasticity from technology has become critical for a $4 trillion industry that, even though it's the fastest growing part of the U.S. economy, can no longer simply raise rates to boost profit margins.

It's probably not a surprise that when Free Flow Wines went to look for an application that would enable it to track its signature wine kegs, it came up empty handed. In fact, Free Flow Wines couldn't find a decent product that could track any kind of returnable asset.
Not even NetSuite, which the Napa, Calif.-based company relies on to manage the delivery, returns, cleaning and reuse of its 85,000 kegs, had a module that could perform that task. And, as CEO Jordan Kivelstadt told a roomful of attendees at NetSuite's SuiteWorld conference in San Jose, Calif., "NetSuite wasn't building one any time soon."

Cloud-based ERP has been around for more than a decade. In fact, NetSuite has a large roster of customers that have been leveraging the power of the cloud for 10 years or more.
Yet, many distributors are still relying on aged, on-premise systems. That’s understandable. Removing an existing system and installing new ERP can be expensive and disruptive. But there’s a catch. The cost of not doing anything can be far more expensive and the internal disruption caused by launching a new ERP project pales in comparison to the disruption already going on in the industry that companies running on cloud-based systems are having a hard time adjusting to.

Of all the advice you receive about using SEO to improve your ecommerce website’s performance, the simplest and probably the most difficult to achieve is this – create compelling content.
With the Panda update, Google has altered the way it ranks pages. Long tail and broad keywords with plenty of inbound and outbound links will still help, but that’s not enough anymore. Google is now placing less value on links and more value on quality content. It’s why you’ve probably heard the often-repeated phrase, “content is king.”

There’s something special about manufacturers and distributors who sell food and beverages vs. those that produce other products. Not least of which is the fact that these products wind up inside the end customer.
That puts additional strain on food and beverage manufacturers and distributors to track and manage their processes spanning manufacturing, recipe management, packaging and the chain of custody. All of which come with a bevy of external standards they need to meet, such as the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Many clients are hesitant when considering a hosted or cloud-based CRM solution. Many negative thoughts may arise…the company data is not resident, what about internet speed/outages, etc. However, there are more reasons than not to have a SAAS (software as a service) solution.
First of all , your company data, when hosted by a reputable firm like NetSuite or Salesforce.com, is actually more secure, why? It is the core business of the software vendor to keep data secure and non-corrupt. They have redundant data centers and high availability hardware to ensure reliability and availability. Why, because there are economies of scale when you have tens of thousands of users.
Cost is a primary driver. Having a full time (large) in-house IT staff, especially for a mid-market firm, is very expensive in both administrative and hardware/software costs. Employing a Cloud solution is basically ‘outsourcing’ part or all of your IT staff, so that you can focus on your core business, which is most likely not IT. The average cost savings is usually over 40% per year.
Lastly, the usability of a cloud based solution ensures high acceptance rate of the solution. One of the risks of implementing a CRM system is non-acceptance. Many sales people would still like to keep their data on a piece of paper or in MS Excel. By providing a tool to track leads and forecasts in the cloud, the company can make the sales person more productive, and make the company more productive. Web-based interfaces allows apps that make the salesperson’s admin job more interesting and less time consuming…can you say “iPhone app” to look up leads and notes on a customer?
